Sustainability: Our commitment to mining responsibly

Cerrejón is a reflection of the best of Colombia: a world-class operation committed to the sustainable development of La Guajira beyond the duration of our mining concession. Cerrejón has developed social responsibility programmes focused on sustainable development in areas such as education, health, culture, sports, productive projects, the environment, infrastructure enhancement, training, employment and basic sanitation for our neighbouring communities, including the native Wayuu people.

Much of this work is channelled through the Cerrejón Foundations, which were established in 2008 to continue the work of an earlier Foundation which had been developing social benefit programmes for the indigenous and non-indigenous communities of La Guajira since 1984.
