Following the 2002 integration of all the mining assets and Cerrejón operations in Colombia CMC was launched in January 2003. Both Cerrejón and CMC are owned in equal parts by the same shareholders – Anglo American plc, BHP Billiton plc and Xstata plc.

The unique shareholding structure of our global operations, comprising three of the strongest mining companies in the world, supports the first-class operational standards of the Cerrejón mining complex and enables us to deliver outstanding results in a competitive global market.

Strategically placed to serve the global market, the Cerrejón mining complex is at the gateway to North and Central America and the greater Atlantic Basin. Cerrejón is four days sailing time from the US and 14 days sailing time from Europe. Today, growing market demand in Asia has extended our reach into the Pacific Basin.
